As I countdown the time until I am at the theater watching The X-Files:  I Want to Believe in all its glory, I wanted to share some articles that came out today that have had me laughing, crying, smiling, cringing or beaming with pride.

First of all, some well-written odes to Dana Scully and to Gillian Anderson for portraying her well.

These women authors are bringing a tear to my eye as they relive our collective youth, capture our excitement over the new movie and lament the roles women have been given in movies and television recently...

Where have all the heroines gone?

And bonus piece - an amazing story about a disabled woman who's love for Scully and Gillian is helping her overcome the odds and hang on.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.

I got my midnight show tickets today too!  Squee!!!  Anyone that doesn't know yet - a bunch of us from Haven (and some of my non-phile friends) are seeing the show at the 34th St. Cinema.  If you're interested in joining, let me know!

I'll update soon with ridiculous pics from my trip up to the Cape this weekend.  I'm too wired with XF at the moment!

I have three words for you.

LEG. WRESTLING. CHAMP.

Enough said!  :)

XF - You Must Believe
15th-Jul-2008 03:09 pm - MASSIVE "X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE" POST

Ok, here's my problem.

When news of the second movie hit, I got sucked back into X-Files fandom at a disgustingly absurd level. My devotion is bigger than it was when I was 18, I think - if that's even remotely possible. It's a mix of nostalgia, excitement and the feeling like I've regained something that was lost - something I was just fine living without when I had to, but that i don't want to go on living without again if I don't have to. Does that make sense?

I want people to be reminded about why they loved the show so long ago, about all the beautiful things it represents, about the cool atmosphere it projects, about the true scare and how it isn't about gore but about a mood and a flash and a heart-pounding tension.

And at it's core, this show and these movies are about love. Love for another person that is truly the other half of yourself. Someone who would lay down their life for you. It's about love for the truth. Love for justice and heroism. Love for the possible, of what might be out there. Love for an ideal, a belief, something greater than yourself.

I WANT TO BELIEVE.

I just want this movie to succeed so badly!! I want it to become a small franchise - with at least one more film in the canon. And then, I will be able to let it go, let it live on in collective memory.

So, the problem is that I don't feel this film is being given a proper chance. It's not being marketed the way I hoped it would, and it's being put up against a monster juggernaut called The Dark Knight. TDK will have only been out for a week when IWTB bows in theaters - how can anyone really get excited for this movie when TDK is in their faces 24/7, and is an example of a film with the best sort of marketing - marketing that makes everyone feel as if they would die if they didn't see it opening day??

Ok, rather than ranting my day away, I've gathered a bunch of cool X-Files shit and I'm putting it out here into the world in one spot where hopefully those on my F-list that aren't Philes could spread the word a little bit just cuz they like me and want to see me happy. :)

Seriously guys, GO SEE THIS MOVIE. I'll figure out a way to repay you, I promise. :)

A Salute to Fox Mulder...(I would embed it, but that just causes problems that I can’t fix, because I’m either an idiot or my LJ is busted, I’m not sure which).

4)  Check out these fan-made movie posters.  I love them!  People can be so creative and cool.  The fans really are my life-blood most days.

This is my favorite:

5)     And last, but certainly not least...Some amazing LJ foks and communities that I'd like to pimp - because they make the greatest art, fanfiction, fan mixes, episode re-caps, etc...Check em out!!

These people have really made me laugh and cry with their brilliant insights into the series and the upcoming film, and I thank them all!

I think I'm going to cry!!!

Somehow - and I swear to GOD I have NO IDEA how this happened - all the words, pictures, listings, etc from my profile are GONE.  I don't understand!  How could this happen - there was so much in there!

13th-Apr-2008 11:37 pm - Gah!
So yeah, on the 'me' front - I was hungover pretty bad today.  Carolyn's brother came into town from Boston and took us out for a wild night of outdoor eating, debaucherous drinking, sing alongs at gay bars and 3am pizza.  And lest we forget - THE GROSSEST STORY EVER TOLD.   I would repeat it here, but it wouldn't do it justice.  Let's just say he had an accident on the way to a big job interview and how he got out of trouble in the men's room is priceless.  He's quite the storyteller!  Give me a run for my money actually!

So yeah, today was a basically a total waste, but I got to chill out with Mari and her friend Sarah, and then Erica came over for our XF Rewatch 2008.  We're 3 episodes away from finishing Season 4.  Go team!!

This week has a lot of promise - work is picking up a good pace of things that I actually want to spend time doing, and it's a short work week for me to boot!  Carolyn and I have taken off on Friday for NY Comic Con!  YES!!  Chris Carter & Frank Spotnitz and some new XF2 footage is sooo close!

And!!!

I'm sure plenty of people on my friends pages will be posting these photos, but let me just throw my hat into the ring and give everyone another chance to look at these gems.

Yes, I'm gay for GA.  LOL!

GA - tender tendrils
9th-Apr-2008 02:55 pm - I want to believe so badly...
They said the birds refused to sing and the thermometer fell suddenly; as if God Himself had His breath stolen away.  No one there dared speak aloud, as much in shame as in sorrow.  They uncovered the bodies one by one. The eyes of the dead were closed as if waiting for permission to open them.  Were they still dreaming of ice cream and monkey bars?  Of birthday cake and no future but the afternoon?  Or had their innocence been taken along with their lives - buried in the cold earth so long ago?  These fates seemed too cruel, even for God to allow.  Or are the tragic young born again when the world's not looking?

I want to believe so badly; in a truth beyond our own - hidden and obscured from all but the most sensitive eyes...

In the endless procession of souls... in what cannot and will not be destroyed.  I want to believe we are unaware of God's eternal recompense and sadness.  That we cannot see His truth.  That that which is born still lives and cannot be buried in the cold earth.  But only waits to be born again at God's behest... where in ancient starlight we lay in repose...

"Closure" opening voiceover

7th-Apr-2008 12:38 pm - Name that tune!!
Or, more appropriately, name the song that contains these lyrics.  :)  But that doesn't sound nearly as catchy!

I've done this once before and had a good time with it - though it's been probably over a year, so with all the new faces around here, let's see how many you can guess!
